Keoladeo Ghana National Park
Keoladeo Ghana National Park was previously known as Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary. The place is rich with flora and fauna and houses thousands of birds during the winters. More than 230 species of birds are believed to reside in this region and hence, it is a famous tourist spot of Bharatpur district. The national park is a man-made wildlife sanctuary which protects the city of Bharatpur from floods and it provides a grazing ground for the cattle of the region as well. The place is spread across an area of 29 sq km and is popularly known as Ghana.
Also known as ‘Iron Fort’, the famous Lohagarh fort is another famous landmark of Bharatpur and is a popular tourist attraction. Built by the Jat rulers, the fort stands tall and is impregnable.
Maharaja Suraj Mal had built forts and palaces in this region among which Lohagarh is believed to be the strongest ever built fort in the Indian history. The fort has two main gates, one being the ‘Ashtadhaatu’ and the other is the ‘Chowburja’.
Inside the fort, there are Mahal Khaas, Kishori Mahal and Kothi Khaas.
